The Historic Collection Suites

Built in 1854 with the remit to ‘take the guest’s breath away’, Great Southern Killarney still stands proudly as Killarney’s Premier Historic Hotel. The Great Southern embodies the sophisticated elegance of the Victorian era and has been a haven for many Presidents, celebrities, and dignitaries throughout the years. We honour this legacy with the Historic Collection of Suites at Great Southern, which consist of The Kennedy Suite, The Ambassador Suite and The Grace Suite. Average room size of the Historic Collection Suites is 495 sq ft/ 46m2.

The Grace Kelly Suite

Named in honour of Hollywood icon and Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly, who stayed in the Great Southern during her visit to Ireland in the 1960’s, the Grace Suite is a luxurious suite that is available with a bedroom/sitting room and dressing area. The Grace Suite has an ideal location at the corner of the Main House of the hotel with spectacular views of the mountains and overlooking Killarney town. The decoration is in keeping with the rest of the hotel and it has been finished with rich fabrics and a Waterford Crystal chandelier, while a vintage record player with selection of classic records adds to the timeless experience. The Grace Suite also includes a selection of famous films starring the iconic actress and a selection of wonderful books about her fascinating life in Hollywood and her experiences as Princess Grace of Monaco. In the bathroom there is a large marble sink and a separate shower and claw bath, perfect for relaxation.

The Jackie Kennedy Suite

Named in honour of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who visited the Great Southern during a trip to Ireland, The Kennedy Suite is an opulent suite that is available with one or two bedrooms and separate sitting room. This suite embodies the sophisticated elegance of the Victorian era and has been a haven for many Presidents, celebrities, and dignitaries throughout the years. The Kennedy Suite commands a prime location in the Main House, with magnificent views overlooking the hotel's beautiful gardens and the scenic mountains of Killarney, while our vintage record player provides the perfect atmosphere for relaxation. It has been carefully and tastefully designed with traditional and authentic fabrics, a Waterford Crystal chandelier, and antique furniture chosen exclusively for each room, while a selection of books and films and documentaries on Jackie Kennedy Onassis and the Kennedy Family are on offer for your perusal. Adding to the feeling of total luxury are beautiful period fittings and paintings from the hotel's extensive collection of fine art. Traditional features in the spacious bathrooms include double sinks set in rich mahogany stands and free-standing cast-iron bathtub. The traditional feel doesn't get in the way of comfort and you'll appreciate a rejuvenating shower with extra-large bath towels.

The Ambassador Suite

Named in honour of the many foreign and political dignitaries that have stayed with us throughout our history, the Great Southern Ambassador Suite is a room of exceptional grace and comfort, located in a prime corner position of the Main House. In this one-bedroom, one-bathroom suite, tall south-facing Victorian windows overlook our gardens, letting warm light flood into every room, while our vintage record player provides the perfect atmosphere for relaxation. A separate drawing room provides an impressive place for private meetings, receiving guests, or just relaxing with a selection of books about Ireland’s International political history also available to peruse. It comes with an in-room refrigerator for chilling a celebratory tipple, or can be stocked as a mini-bar on request. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed. You'll find a perfect start or end to your day in the spacious Ambassador Suite bathroom, with thick marble counters and a double sink. Extra-large bath towels and a separate bathtub help you make the most of a luxurious range of The White Company, London, bath and body products.
