The team are celebrating today at Great Southern Killarney as they were recognised as Ireland’s Best Four Star Hotel which was announced at the prestigious annual Gold Medal Awards last night.

Organised in association with Hotel & Catering Review magazine, the Gold Medal Awards were held at the Lyrath Estate in Kilkenny and saw some of the finest hospitality businesses in the country competing for top spots. Now in their 29th year, the awards are considered the leading independent awards for the Irish hospitality industry.

Great Southern Killarney is operated under the banner of the Hayfield Family Collection which also includes the the boutique hotel, Killarney Royal, also in Killarney and 5-star Hayfield Manor in Cork.

Extensive renovation work has been completed at the Great Southern over the past two years since the Scally Family acquired the hotel. The timing of this news is especially positive as the owners recently announced their intension to retire The Malton brand in favour of this iconic hotel’s famous historic name, Great Southern Killarney.

Speaking about the win, Ettienne van Vrede, CEO of Hayfield Family Collection, said:

“This is a wonderful morale boost for our team following a very busy summer season. To be recognised as the greatest 4-star hotel in Ireland is a marvellous achievement and is a testament to the wonderful work of our outstanding staff. We are absolutely honoured and we are looking forward to the next chapter in the hotel’s great history when we reopen on January 26th, 2018 as the Great Southern Killarney.”
